Social Activist Dr. Bari Arrested in Srinagar Over Extortion Allegations, Denies Charges

Srinagar: Dr. Abdul Bari Naik, a social activist and former assistant professor from Kulgam, has been arrested by Bandipora police in Srinagar following a complaint filed by a local girl. The complaint alleges extortion, a claim that Dr. Bari has vehemently denied.

According to family sources, Dr. Bari has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, boldly asserting, "I should be hanged if the charges are proven true."

Dr. Bari has a controversial history, having been previously arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2021. His employment was terminated without a formal inquiry under Article 311 of the Indian Constitution, citing security concerns. He was later granted bail by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in October 2021, with restrictions on travel outside Jammu and Kashmir.

This latest arrest has sparked debate and calls for transparency. Authorities have yet to release further details about the case.
