Kupwara, Aug 21 (CNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained six police officers, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and a Sub-Inspector (SI), in connection with the alleged custodial torture of Constable Khursheed Ahmad Chohan in Jammu and Kashmir.
The arrests were made following directives from the Supreme Court of India, which had ordered a comprehensive probe into the incident that occurred at the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Kupwara in 2023.
Officials confirmed that the investigation revealed substantial evidence leading to the arrest of the accused officers.
This case has raised fresh concerns over custodial practices and potential human rights abuses in the region. Sources indicated that the CBI is expected to file a detailed charge sheet in the near future.
