Soldier Killed as Security Forces Engage Terrorists in Gunfight in Udhampur, J&K

Udhampur: A fierce gunbattle broke out on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after security forces, acting on intelligence input, launched an operation against terrorists. They were believed to be holed up in the Dudu-Basantgarh heights along the Doda-Udhampur border. The joint operation involved the Indian Army, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

An Army soldier was injured during the encounter and later died in hospital due to his injuries. Reports say that three to four terrorists, likely affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), are trapped in the area. The security forces are continuing their cordon and search efforts to neutralize the threat.

Earlier, there had been confusion about the location of the operation. Some initial reports suggested Kishtwar, but later clarifications stated that the operation is confined to Udhampur.
