Rift in National Conference? MP Aga Ruhullah's Protest Sparks Internal Clash Over Reservation Policy.

Srinagar, Dec 24: The National Conference (NC) is facing internal discord after party MP Aga Ruhullah led a student protest against the reservation policy in Srinagar. The protest, which saw participation from opposition leaders, drew criticism from NC leadership, with MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar calling it "pure drama" and not sanctioned by the party. Sagar stated that protests within the party are only held with approval from senior leaders like Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, emphasizing that Ruhullah’s actions were personal and not representative of NC's official stance.

Sagar expressed concern that Ruhullah’s involvement gave political adversaries, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a chance to exploit the situation. He warned that unauthorized protests could harm the party’s unity and credibility, adding that grievances should be addressed through appropriate channels. While supporting the concerns of open merit students, Sagar criticized the protest for providing a platform to individuals with no political mandate, suggesting it was more about political point-scoring than genuine advocacy.

The incident highlights growing tensions within the NC, raising questions about internal cohesion as the party navigates sensitive issues like reservation policies. Sagar reassured that under Omar Abdullah's leadership, the party remains committed to addressing student grievances through structured dialogue, not unsanctioned protests. This development signals potential rifts within NC, reflecting broader political dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir.
