Gaza Women Allege They Were Offered Food, Money or Jobs in Exchange for Sex Amid Humanitarian Crisis
Several women in Gaza have alleged being offered food, money, or jobs in exchange for sexual favors during the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies pledge investigations amid rising reports of exploitation.
Gaza: In a shocking revelation, multiple women in Gaza have alleged that they were promised food, money, or job opportunities in exchange for sexual favors as the humanitarian crisis deepens across the war-torn region.
According to an Associated Press (AP) investigation reported by The Hindu, six women shared accounts of being approached by men — some claiming to have ties with local aid organizations — who exploited their desperation for survival. The women said they were offered essential supplies, financial help, or employment in return for sexual interactions.
Some propositions reportedly came disguised as marriage offers or job opportunities, while others were more direct. One woman said she was manipulated into sexual contact under the false promise of consistent aid support.
Humanitarian organizations have acknowledged receiving complaints of sexual exploitation linked to aid distribution. The Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) network recorded at least 18 formal allegations in Gaza over the past year, though experts believe the actual number is much higher due to underreporting.
Women’s rights advocates and psychologists in Gaza warn that severe shortages of food, medicine, and shelter have created power imbalances, leaving displaced and widowed women particularly vulnerable.
Aid groups have promised stronger monitoring and accountability mechanisms, but on-ground challenges — including limited oversight, ongoing conflict, and fear among victims — make it difficult to ensure justice.
This revelation has sparked outrage on social media, with activists demanding transparent investigations and protection for vulnerable women in Gaza.
