Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan's Stadium Challenges and PCB's Response

Stadium Renovation Delays Raise Concerns

The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is under scrutiny as major stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi remain under construction. The renovation project, which began in August 2024, was expected to be completed by December 31 but has faced significant delays.

Challenges in Meeting ICC Standards

According to sources, the construction work involves extensive upgrades to seats, floodlights, and playing surfaces, leaving little time for finishing touches. Adverse weather conditions have further slowed progress, raising doubts about the PCB's ability to meet ICC deadlines.

PCB's Assurance and Latest Updates

The PCB remains optimistic, stating that the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Bank Stadium in Karachi are nearing completion. The board has decided to relocate an upcoming tri-nation ODI series to these venues to test readiness ahead of the February 12 handover to the ICC.

"Preparations are in full swing, and we are confident of completing the required upgrades on time," the PCB announced in a recent statement.

Potential Implications for the Tournament

If the PCB fails to meet ICC standards, the Champions Trophy 2025 may be relocated to a different country. The next week is critical as the ICC evaluates the situation and decides on the tournament's future.
