Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain, announced the development at a press conference on Wednesday, revealing that the heroin's market value exceeds Rs 32 crore internationally.
The operation took place at a checkpoint near Barthana, Qamarwari, where a team led by Sub Inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad intercepted a Sumo vehicle (registration number JK05D 1837). Upon inspection, the narcotics were discovered, resulting in the immediate arrest of the two suspects.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the heroin was smuggled into Kashmir from Pakistan, and a wider network has been identified,” SSP Hussain stated. He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in drug trafficking.
In a related incident, the SSP disclosed that a man impersonating a government official was caught attempting to manipulate a woman in exchange for her husband’s release from custody on drug-related charges.
“We are committed to eradicating the drug menace from our community and will continue to pursue offenders relentlessly,” SSP Hussain emphasized. He urged the public to report suspicious activities to aid in the fight against drugs.
The Srinagar police's crackdown highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and enhance public safety across the region.
