Jammu and Kashmir to Install More Smart Meters for a Reliable 24/7 Power Supply

The Ministry of Power has approved the installation of 21,34,095 smart meters in Jammu and Kashmir, responding to the region’s growing demand for modernized electricity infrastructure. As of now, only 6,40,186 smart meters, or 30% of the total sanctioned units, have been installed. This leaves around 14 lakh consumers relying on outdated or unmetered connections, leading to inefficiencies and potential issues with power consumption.

With a focus on improving the region’s electricity distribution system, the installation of more smart meters is essential to ensure accurate billing and prevent tampering. The government's initiative aims to provide uninterrupted 24/7 power supply to consumers, making it crucial for residents to adapt to the modern system and commit to timely payment of bills. This shift will not only address power woes but also promote a culture of responsible consumption, moving away from freeloading.

For Jammu and Kashmir's future, smart meters are a key solution to achieving a stable and reliable power supply. By supporting this change, citizens can contribute to the nation’s progress and the modernization of its energy infrastructure.
