Srinagar Woman Leaves Husband, Marries UP Man She Met on Facebook

SRINAGAR: A woman from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, has sparked controversy after leaving her husband to marry a man she befriended on Facebook. The incident, which unfolded in December 2024, has led to a police investigation following allegations of theft by her first husband.

The woman, identified as Abiral, is an MBBS doctor who married Vinod Kumar, a resident of Mohali, Punjab, in 2017 at an Arya Samaj temple. However, over time, their relationship reportedly became strained. Meanwhile, Abiral developed an online friendship with Dr. Faizan Ahmed, a resident of Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, through Facebook.

In December 2024, Abiral traveled over 1,300 kilometers from Srinagar to Rae Bareli to meet Faizan. The two got married just two days after her arrival, following traditional rituals.

Upon learning of the marriage, Vinod Kumar filed a complaint at the Deeh police station in Rae Bareli. He accused Faizan of luring his wife and alleged that Abiral had taken valuables worth Rs 5 lakh, including gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone, when she left.

Senior police officer Shivkant Pandey confirmed that the woman has expressed her wish to stay with Faizan. “The case is under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings,” Pandey stated.

It remains unclear whether Abiral had legally ended her marriage with Kumar before marrying Faizan. Further details about her Srinagar residence and the circumstances leading to her decision are yet to emerge.
