Islamabad, August 21, 2025 – Pakistan’s Supreme Court has granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in eight cases related to the May 9, 2023 riots, where protests erupted targeting government and military installations following his arrest.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi overturned the Lahore High Court’s earlier decision that had denied Khan’s bail pleas. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hailed the verdict as a “victory” for their leader.
However, Khan will remain in jail as he still faces charges in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. His legal team says further proceedings are ongoing to secure his release from the remaining cases, including Toshakhana-related convictions.
This ruling marks a major development in Pakistan’s political and legal landscape as Imran Khan continues to challenge his imprisonment amidst multiple charges.
