Unexpected Power Bill Hike in Non-Metered Areas Leaves Kulgam Residents Shocked, Frustrated.

August 07, 2025-Kulgam:  Residents of Qaimoh and several other non-metered areas of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are expressing outrage over a sudden and unexplained hike in electricity bills issued by the Power Development Department (PDD).

Last month, my electricity bill was ₹1560, and this month it jumped to ₹1820 without any change in usage,” said a local from Qaimoh.

Similar complaints have been reported from various other parts of the district. Locals argue that in non-metered areas, such sharp hikes are unjustified and arbitrary, leading to growing frustration among consumers.
People are now urging authorities to take immediate action, demanding a clear explanation and revision of the billing system to prevent further exploitation.
