Ganderbal, Sept 24 — The mystery behind the death of 22-year-old Ajaz Ahmed Rather from Sultan Colony, Kangan, has been solved with police confirming it as a planned murder.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Muhammad Khalil Poswal, revealed in a press briefing that Ajaz was strangled with a wire by two acquaintances, Niyazul Haq and Moieen, before his body was dumped into the Power Canal. Initially thought to be a case of drowning, the investigation uncovered CCTV footage showing the accused purchasing the wire used in the crime.
After a 12-hour operation, the body was recovered by police and SDRF teams, with strangulation marks clearly visible on his neck. The murder weapon has also been seized.
Both accused are now in custody, and a murder case has been registered. SSP Poswal stressed that forensic and scientific evidence will be used to ensure justice, while also urging parents and society to closely monitor youth behavior to prevent such tragedies.
