Dehradun, Oct 1: Tension flared in Uttarakhand’s capital after an alleged derogatory social media post against Prophet Muhammad triggered protests in the Patel Nagar area late Tuesday night.
According to officials, the controversy erupted when a screenshot containing objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad was allegedly shared on social media by 19-year-old Gulshan Singh, a resident of Patel Nagar, originally from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh.
The post quickly went viral, leading to protests in the locality as people gathered on the streets demanding action. To prevent the situation from escalating, Dehradun Police conducted a flag march and appealed to residents to maintain peace.
A senior police official said, “The situation is tense but under control. We are closely monitoring the area and strict action will be taken against those trying to disturb communal harmony.”
Authorities have urged people not to spread rumors on social media and warned of legal action against anyone attempting to incite violence.
